About The BLOCKS Collection
About The BLOCKS Collection
The BLOCKS Collection is one of New Zealand s largest private Lego
collections and is arguably the largest vintage Lego collection in
Australasia.
Vaughan Blok is the collection owner and now curator.
Vaughan started serious collecting in 1995 with Lego Technics
trucks and diggers.
A purchase of a bulk lot in early 2001 contained lots of older Lego, including some 1950's
bricks and waffle plates.
These vintage items triggered an interest with Vaughan to investigate further. The result is now twenty years of amassing lots of Lego, old and new.
Participation with LEGO groups over the last 7 years and exhibiting historical aspects of the collection at Brick Shows spread the word of the collections uniqueness.
Family, friends and the Lego community convinced Vaughan to share the collection with the public.
The collection is housed in a commercial space in Penrose, Auckland. Originally intended to just keep it safe and dry a concerted plan to display it was stared in late 2018. Lots of work to tidy the space, stopping, painting, lighting upgrades and preparing display racks took place over 2019 as time and financing permitted.
A trial of opening for viewing by appointment took place in the October 2019 school holidays. Some lucky families got to see the display before the covers went on on and got a personal commentary of special Lego trivia from Vaughan.
Shortly after with everything sorted the collection was finally
open to the public during the next school holidays. This was
hugely success.
But then the world went to crap and no-one could visit thing
again. But now it is 2022 and everything is open again.
Including The BLOCKS Collection.
